Insects
Generally, insects have not caused widespread damage to the dry bean crop in the MN/DAK area. Different yearly environmental conditions can influence insect populations, as we saw with the infestations of leafhoppers in 1999. Growers need to monitor fields carefully of insect pests that are damaging the crop during the growing season. Proper insect identification and knowledge of the economic thresholds for treatment are essential in running an integrated pest management program. Insecticides recommended by Central Valley Bean CO-OP can be found HERE.
